Andrew Fremont-Smith primarily makes performances, time-based works and installations.

In the live performances, the situation of people assembling in the space, is itself made dynamic, and integrated into the work.

Time-shifts, humor, loops with changes, heterogeneous elements which are nonetheless linked, make what is seen and experienced into an exploded view...often with a deadpan, somewhat clownesque version of AFS playing a part. Displacements, decomposition, virtual allegory arises. Things are contingent. The forms I work with involve some new media elements.

In works such as Wolf Station, I am concerned with how projection works, culturally and in the here and now. How does the audience's projections become a part of what is happening? How does projection under-write narrativizing and sense, what can be shifted?

AFS is working collaboritively on projects as well as developing his own works

- Ongoing project of Open Call with Andreas Bachmair. Research & Development Performances scheduled through the spring of 2011. More information here

- Working Title: On Track/Road Dys A to B An artistic research project with Zhana Ivanova, funded by the Amsterdam Funds for the Arts. In the late Spring of 2011, we will travel to different sites in the U.S. developing ideas of mapping, and the relationships of body to abandoned space, narrativizing to history, where clues are more important then the smoking gun. Our research will involve images, sound, singular mappings, derive approaches, elements of narrative. Blog here

- Sister ID explores how two selves interact-- each self pursuing the meaning of the other's self's Other, as the dialogue shifts and gathers a kind of sense. Video sample here
